Beaches

There are numerous beautiful beaches to visit. Lopness Has a WW2 wreck, there are caves and stone arches at Doun Helzie and the dunes at Tresness are definitely worth a visit.

Archaeology

Sanday has many archaeological sights. The chambered tomb at Elsness is open all year and admission is free.

Wildlife

There are otters and plenty of seals. Newark Bay and Whitemill are good places to see seals. Seabirds are regularly seen around and waders are particularly attracted to the vast shallow coastline.

Sanday has a 9 hole golf course, a swimming pool, fitness suite and a large play park.

If you don’t want to cook at Appiehouse self catering accommodation, you can find good food at the Kettletoft Hotel, the Belsair and Backaskaill B&B, but if you are keen to cook the two Sanday shops are well stocked, Sinclair General Stores and the Sanday Community Shop.
